Momentum Solar Review & Feedback

Company Overview

Momentum Solar is one of the largest privately held residential solar providers in the United States. Founded in 2009 and headquartered in New Jersey, the company has expanded its operations nationwide, becoming a major player in the residential solar market. Momentum Solar is best known for its full-service approach, meaning it handles the entire solar process in-house, from consultation and design to permitting, installation, and activation.

This “white glove” model sets Momentum apart from competitors who rely heavily on third-party subcontractors. By managing most of the process internally, Momentum Solar aims to deliver a smoother customer experience and maintain greater control over quality and timelines. The company also places emphasis on education, walking homeowners through how solar works, expected savings, and financing options.

Services Offered

Momentum Solar provides a wide range of services designed to make solar accessible and manageable for homeowners. These include:

  • Residential Solar Installation – Complete rooftop solar panel systems customized to each home’s energy needs.
  • System Design & Engineering – In-house experts design the system for optimal efficiency and appearance.
  • Permitting & Paperwork – Handling of local permits, HOA requirements, and utility paperwork.
  • Installation & Activation – Momentum crews manage installation and work with utilities to get systems online.
  • Monitoring Services – Systems come with monitoring options so homeowners can track energy production.
  • Financing Options – Cash purchases, loans, leases, and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).
  • Customer Education – Consultations that explain solar savings, tax incentives, and long-term benefits.

Momentum Solar’s focus is almost entirely on residential solar, and it does not heavily emphasize related services like roofing or EV charging. Its goal is to specialize in solar energy for homeowners, with a strong focus on customer experience.

Pros of Momentum Solar

In this Momentum Solar review, several strengths stand out that make the company appealing to homeowners:

  • Full-Service Approach – Momentum handles sales, design, permits, installation, and activation in-house, reducing reliance on subcontractors.
  • National Reach – With operations across multiple states, Momentum has one of the larger footprints in the U.S. solar industry.
  • Streamlined Process – Customers benefit from having a single company manage the entire project.
  • Customer Education – Momentum invests time in explaining solar savings and financing options clearly.
  • Flexible Financing – Options include purchasing, loans, leases, and PPAs.
  • Professional Crews – Installation teams are often recognized for professionalism and efficiency.
  • Emphasis on Energy Savings – Systems are designed to maximize bill reduction and long-term savings.

Cons of Momentum Solar

At the same time, Momentum Solar feedback also points to challenges that prospective customers should weigh carefully:

  • Customer Service Variability – Some customers report difficulty reaching support or delays in follow-up communication.
  • Aggressive Sales Tactics – A portion of feedback mentions high-pressure sales experiences.
  • Project Delays – Like many solar companies, projects can take longer than expected due to permitting or scheduling.
  • Warranty Clarity – While product warranties are provided, some customers are unclear about workmanship coverage.
  • Regional Differences – Service quality may vary depending on the local office and crews.
  • Limited Additional Services – Momentum focuses mainly on solar, offering fewer add-ons like storage or EV chargers compared to some competitors.

Concern: Recording of In-Home Visits via “Rilla” App

Some customers, and past employees have raised concerns that Momentum Solar staff may use an app called Rilla to record conversations during in-home visits. Rilla records, transcribes, and analyzes conversations for training and quality control. While recording may be legal in one-party consent states, it can be illegal in two-party consent states if all parties have not agreed. Reports online also suggest that employees in similar industries have been told not to disclose these recordings to customers.

  • Customer Concern: Momentum staff may use Rilla to record inside the home.
  • About Rilla: Records, transcribes, and analyzes conversations for performance review.
  • Privacy Issue: Legal in some states, but can be illegal in two-party consent states without consent.
  • BEWARE: Recording in your home without knowledge or consent may violate your privacy.
  • Homeowner Tip: Always ask to see and confirm that any recording devices or apps are turned off before allowing entry—you have the right to refuse being recorded.

Positive Feedback

Positive customer feedback for Momentum Solar often highlights smooth installations and energy savings. Many homeowners report:

  • Lower Electric Bills – Noticeable cost reductions once systems are activated.
  • Professional Installers – Crews are often described as courteous, efficient, and careful with property.
  • Educational Consultations – Customers appreciate the clear explanations of solar benefits and incentives.
  • Convenience – Having one company manage everything from start to finish creates peace of mind.
  • System Performance – Many customers are pleased with the long-term reliability of their systems.

Overall, satisfied customers often point to a stress-free process and real financial benefits as reasons for recommending Momentum Solar.

Negative Feedback

On the other hand, customer reviews also highlight some areas where Momentum Solar could improve. Common criticisms include:

  • Communication Delays – Some homeowners experience long wait times for responses after installation.
  • Sales Pressure – A minority of customers describe the sales process as pushy or overwhelming.
  • Slow Project Timelines – Permitting, scheduling, or activation delays can extend projects beyond initial expectations.
  • Warranty Questions – Customers sometimes report confusion over the details of warranty coverage.
  • Regional Inconsistency – Experiences vary depending on which office or local crew manages the project.

These concerns do not apply to every customer, but they appear often enough to be part of the decision-making process for potential buyers.

Service Areas

Momentum Solar operates in multiple states across the U.S., primarily in regions with strong solar adoption and supportive policies. Service areas include:

The company continues to expand and adapt to new state markets where solar incentives and customer demand are strong. Its primary presence, however, remains in states with high residential solar adoption.

Final Thoughts

This Momentum Solar review provides a balanced look at the strengths and challenges of one of the nation’s largest residential solar providers.

Strengths: Momentum’s full-service model, wide availability, and emphasis on customer education make it a strong choice for homeowners who want a streamlined solar experience. Its financing flexibility and professional crews add to its appeal.

Weaknesses: Customer service variability, sales pressure, and occasional delays are recurring issues noted in feedback. Warranty details also require careful review.

Best For: Homeowners who want one company to manage the entire solar process from consultation to activation.
Caution For: Those sensitive to sales pressure or who prioritize flawless communication may want to compare Momentum with local competitors.

In summary: Momentum Solar has positioned itself as a trusted national brand with a strong full-service approach. While customer feedback highlights both positive and negative experiences, its overall reputation suggests it is a reliable choice for many homeowners looking to switch to clean energy and save on utility costs.

The sales rep misled us from the very beginning, and the service has been terrible. He lied about inflation, misrepresented what I actually pay for electricity, and now refuses to return my calls because he knows there’s a problem. Be very cautious with their financing—if you don’t hand over your rebate, your payment goes up after a year. They don’t explain this upfront, and the salesman flat-out lied about it. My rep was Dylan, and I’d strongly advise staying away from him. If I had to do it all over again, I would never have gone with solar panels.

Beware when you allow the Momentum Solar salesperson into your house, they are recording your conversations on their phone. I felt so violated when I saw the salesperson’s phone and saw that it was recording. It’s a yellow screen and notice a timer running, then I realized it was recording us – INSIDE OUR HOME!
When I asked what that was and if they were recording, he said oh no it’s an AI machine that monitors me not you. But BS, it was definitely some sort of recording thing. I immediately told them to leave my house and that I would be reporting it. How can they come into my home and record me, that is just a violation of my privacy, inside my house, without my consent.
On top of that, everything they said sounded like a script, about BJ’s Wholesale Club being their partner, about they were deemed the best for solar by their partners, and something about the CEO and Finance guy. Then about not sub-contracting (only part I thought was good), then about chic-fit-a and Amazon. I mean I know it had to be a script thing.
Then they try to push inflation, and make it seem like it’s astronomical when, yes, there is inflation always, but not like they are painting it. But obviously they use that inflation story to scare you about how much electricity is going to go up and then show you elevated prices for their solar.
Right at the point when he gave me the Partner Pricing, which was a push for me signing same day with them, is when I saw the yellow app recording on his phone.
Between the obvious script and the push for inflated inflation, I was about already done, then the recording thing just really angered me, and he had to leave.
My words of advice, check the open apps on the salesperson’s phone when they come to your house. Otherwise, don’t let them into your home and violate your privacy.

After Hurricane Milton, I called customer service to request a technician to check my system and panels for possible storm damage. I was told the warranty doesn’t cover natural disasters like hurricanes, and that having someone come out would cost $400–$500. That feels like price gouging, especially after such a storm.

To make matters worse, the system has never performed as promised. My electric bill hasn’t gone down like the salesman said it would, and now I’m left with poor customer support and disappointing results. The salesperson who sold me the system is no longer with the company, which says a lot. If I could give zero stars, I would. Don’t buy from Momentum Solar.

Momentum Solar turned out to be much more expensive than other companies I looked at. I’m glad I took the time to get multiple quotes instead of rushing into a decision.

At first, my boyfriend and I were a little hesitant, but we couldn’t be happier with our experience. We haven’t had to pay for anything other than the small meter fee and our fixed solar payment—which is lower than our average utility bill. There were no upfront or hidden costs, and our sales rep, Justin Benton, was completely transparent. He took the time to go through the contract with us line by line, made sure we had a downloaded copy on our laptop, and ensured that everything promised—warranties, licenses, proof that they don’t use subcontractors, and full equipment specifications—was clear.

Momentum is veteran-owned and uses only American-made equipment 🇺🇸. Justin also went above and beyond, always calling or texting back the same day without fail. Both he and the company made us feel confident and safe in our decision, and we’re so glad we moved forward with Momentum.

I’ve had a leak around my chimney for years and made sure to mention it to the Momentum Solar salesperson, especially since I also purchased my roof through them. I was assured the chimney and flashing would be taken care of. Unfortunately, the leak is still there even after the new roof was installed. Now I’m being told the chimney isn’t part of the roof work, and that I’ll have to pay extra to have the panels removed and reinstalled just to fix the issue.

Zero stars if I could! I bought both a roof and solar panels from Momentum, and I’m extremely disappointed with the quality of the roof. They promised a top-tier product, but what I received was overpriced work with no real expertise behind it. To make things worse, no one from their roofing department will respond to my concerns. My roof is sagging under the panels, and the shingles look uneven and wavy. I regret trusting this company and feel completely let down.

This company claims to help homeowners go solar, but if your property doesn’t show as fully exposed to the sun on satellite images, they’ll just cancel on you. In my case, they called from a Connecticut number at 9:00 pm to tell me my home wasn’t a fit. If your roof isn’t in full sun all day, don’t bother—they’ll waste your time. They don’t even call from a local office, just an 800 number that disrupts your evening and wakes up the family.

I’ve had a wonderful experience working with Karan from Momentum Solar. She has been extremely helpful and knowledgeable throughout the entire process. Karan took her time to explain everything clearly and made sure I understood each step. She also went the extra mile to help us secure as many incentives as possible. I’m very glad she was our representative!

I’ve been dealing with this company for over a year, and what started as a “good deal” has turned into a complete nightmare. I’m only seeing 250–350 kWh applied to my electric bill, even though my system produces over 1,300 kWh. That leaves me stuck with both a high electric bill and a $200+ solar payment. When I call for answers, no one ever picks up—but if you miss a payment, they blow up your phone nonstop to collect.

They also lied about an $8,600 tax rebate, promised my solar bill would never go above $124, and even pitched the panels as part of a so-called “government free panel” program. On top of that, the installers were rude to my dogs. This company has been dishonest from the start, and I regret ever signing up. Don’t waste your time or money.

We invested $20,000 in solar and a battery, and after nearly seven months the project still isn’t finished. Reaching customer service has been impossible—no one answers, and we’ve since learned the department has been shut down. To this day, we have no clear update on our solar system. At this point, we’re considering contacting local TV stations just to get some help resolving the issue.

The Momentum Solar salesperson in Ft. Myers misled me at every step. They exaggerated the impact of inflation, misrepresented what I actually pay per kWh, and painted a false picture of future electricity costs and supposed savings with solar. On top of that, they pushed hard for me to sign the contract on the spot.

Later, I spoke with another solar company that reviewed everything in detail and offered the same type of panels and equipment at a much lower price. I’m glad I didn’t move forward with Momentum and instead went with a local Ft. Myers company that had far better reviews and was much more honest.

My advice—be cautious, double-check their numbers, and always compare quotes from multiple solar companies before signing anything.

We’re still just as happy with Momentum today as we were almost 5 years ago when we first signed up. From our first meeting with the sales rep, through the simple planning process and installation, everything was handled smoothly. Momentum has delivered on every promise in our agreement. The service has been seamless—no hidden costs, no surprises, and only a small amount of our time needed for installation and inspections. After that, it’s been nothing but smooth sailing.

We’re looking forward to another 20+ years of lowering our electricity costs, reducing our carbon footprint, and doing our part to support a cleaner future for generations to come. Thank you, Momentum, for your transparency, dedication, and making the solar process effortless and easy to understand.

If you’re looking for a company that ignores calls and refuses to service the system they installed, this is the one. My home now has random holes drilled into it, and the solar setup looks like it was put together by a child. The customer service is awful, and the system itself doesn’t work properly. I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone—not even my worst enemy. At this point, I’m preparing to remove the system entirely and take legal action, since they’re charging for a service that doesn’t even function.

This company is relentless! Just today I received 6 calls from them. Each time I blocked the number, they would call back on another one. As a business owner myself, I find it rude and tacky hounding people. If I didn’t answer the second time, then it’s obvious I don’t want the business. I wish the do not call list still worked and these companies didn’t harass by using different numbers.

After five years as a Momentum Solar customer, I’m extremely disappointed. The salesman misled us more than once about the cost of removing and reinstalling panels if our roof was ever damaged by weather. He assured us there would be no charge, but now I’ve learned there is, in fact, a cost. When I asked Momentum for help, all I got were apologies and no real solutions. I would strongly recommend anyone considering solar to look elsewhere—Momentum and their sales team have not been honest.

We just signed up with Justin Benton, and he was extremely knowledgeable. I can already tell he’ll be available anytime we have questions or need help—that’s how personal and supportive he is. We also had the pleasure of working with Kami, who was wonderful throughout the process.

We’ve had Momentum Solar on our home in NJ before and never had a bad experience. The best part is the savings—solar really does save a lot of money. We’re looking forward to starting those savings again!

    Hello

This company is dishonest. Before I signed the contract, they told me I had a 25-year warranty. But when the system failed in the very first year, they suddenly said I had to pay. I reminded them about the warranty, and they claimed it doesn’t cover the panels—only repairs if they can fix the issue. If the panel needs to be replaced, it’s not covered. This is misleading and feels like fraud.

My system is only two years old, yet one of the poorly installed mounts has already caused a leak in my kitchen. When I called Momentum, I was told they wouldn’t even send someone to look at it because of Hurricane Milton—calling it an “act of God”—even though my area wasn’t even in Milton’s path. The roofing department was completely unprofessional, and although a supervisor was supposed to call me back within 48 hours, it’s now been over a week with no response. I strongly recommend avoiding Momentum Solar.
